Harish Kalyan’s Dhanusu Raasi Neyargale is a routine, predictable romantic comedy with a melodramatic message in the climax. The storytelling, presentation, performance, music, and the overall look ‘n’ feel is outdated.
Arjun (Harish Kalyan) is an ardent believer of astrology that he even steps out of his house at auspicious time, wear different colored shirts suiting his star sign and many such crazy things. His astrology guru Thirumandha (Pandirajan) tells him that he should marry a Kanni Raasi girl who comes from another state so that his life will prosper. Despite the repeated matrimonial search, Arjun is unable to find his dream girl.
Interestingly, Arjun meets an aspiring astronaut KR Vijaya(Digangana Suryavanshi) at his ex-girlfriend’s wedding and they eventually fall in love. Can Arjun and aspiring astronaut KR Vijaya take their relationship to the next level?
The basic crux of Dhanusu Raasi Neyargale certainly sounds interesting but sadly, everything looks outdated. The entire first half, does not have a single comedy scene and the usually funny Munishkanth is wasted. The film has Yogi Babu who narrates the entire story but again no laughs. Being a romantic comedy genre, there is not even a single good comedy scene.
Talking about romance, the film only revolves around lust and there is no love. There are dialogues between Harish and Digangana that they cannot live without each other but where are the scenes depicting their true love? All we see is their physical relationship! The backstories of the characters(Harish is a staunch believer of astrology, Munishkanth is Periyar fan, and Digangana Suryavanshi is a scientist) are interesting but the director cannot make use of these contrasting elements in the screenplay.
Ghibran’s songs are okay but the background sounds so much like Raja from the ’80s. PK Varma’s cinematography is strictly functional and despite 121 minutes duration, we feel that the film is too long, thanks to the monotonous lifeless tone!
